The assignment that was given was to implement a version of the Lumisight UH app that the university uses for monitoring students, staff for all things related to COVID. Our app, Camino Lumisight, can be found at its deployed site https://lumi-camino.meteorapp.com/#/. This app instructs users to create an account where they can do daily check-ins for COVID symptoms, upload their vaccination card and links to COVID resources.
The app is designed to be minimalistic and easy to use for users. I had the most contribution to the design in this project. We used neutral colors and tones to bring out the font. There’s limited tabs to click through since using different sites for COVID related things can be difficult for users. On each page we utilized the layout of cards so we could maximize the content to one page which turned out to fit eloquently on the home page.
The most difficult part of the project was implementing AWS for the file upload. This was difficult because this is the first time I had been told to implement it. It is seen as if “the big guys” use AWS in their applications, but it was our turn to use it. My group failed mulitple times and it didn’t work, but Michael successfully found a solution and it works perfectly in our application.
During this adventure through creating our own COVID related app, I have learned that there is a lot of thought in creating apps for other to use and especially during a pandemic. The procedure to create a friendly app is to be methodical and thoughtful.
